From a young engineer mesmerized by market tickers to a seasoned trader and educator, my path has been defined by relentless curiosity and resilience.
I’m Ali Casey, a Canadian with roots in Baghdad, Iraq, but I consider myself a citizen of the world. My journey into trading began back in 1994 when I first saw the ticker on CNBC. My engineer’s mind immediately wondered if there was a way to use math to predict market moves, but I only entered the markets in 1998, almost at the peak of the dot-com bubble where I made and lost a fortune.
In 2001, I toured the Nasdaq and the NYSE Exchange—a moment I'll never forget. That trip to New York, especially the Nasdaq tour, cemented my passion for trading and solidified my commitment to advancing my trading skills.
In my early days, I was naieve obsessed with finding or creating a trading system that was profitable 100% of the time. This led me down the path of over-optimizing strategies, and I consistently blew up my accounts due to overfitting and excessive leverage.
I kept going, because I loved the markets, and thanks to my successful entrepreneurial ventures that allowed me to re-fund my trading accounts every time I got wiped out.
My big breakthrough came in 2014 when a fund manager that was managing my money recommended I read The Turtle Traders by Michael Covel. That book switched on a light bulb in my brain:
Simple systems make a lot of money.
Use leverage based on probability.
Only trade a portfolio.
Manage risk statistically.
These were the keys to success, not a 100% win rate. I realized that with proper risk management, even a lower win-rate strategy could be profitable.

My journey began with the failure of the first business I started, which tested my resilience and adaptability, and taught me invaluable lessons. Armed with that experience, I launched my next venture, facing many challenges but learning even more, including the importance of taking calculated risks and managing them effectively. Those early mistakes and hurdles proved essential in shaping my approach, ultimately leading to the success of my later ventures, which I exited profitably
Why StatOasis Name?
Short for Statistical Oasis, the name reflects my reliance on statistical analysis, which has become my comfort zone in all aspects of my life, including, of course, my trading and investing philosophy.
Originally conceived as a hedge fund name, StatOasis became a platform during the COVID-19 pandemic to share my expertise with others who are interested in becoming better at investing their capital.

Portfolio Trading: Always trade a portfolio of strategies to diversify risk.
Adaptability: Build robust strategies but never get attached to any one of them—discard them as soon as their edge erodes.
Systemized Workflow: Use a structured approach to building portfolios to avoid biases and attachment to any single strategy.

Looking ahead, my goal is to grow StatOasis community to help 100,000 traders become profitable. I’m creating intuitive software tools that will simplify trading for everyone, regardless of their starting point, capital, or time commitment.
I understand that not everyone has the time to become an algo trader, so I’m working on products that implement intuitive software tools to make investing accessible to everyone.
